Royal Air Force - Boeing C-17A Globemaster III AI Traffic Files for FS2004

Designed for Use with RAF Brize Norton Scenery Add On, Brize AI
and Project Opensky C-17 by Owen Hewitt for FS2002

Requires TTOOLS and AFCAD by Lee Swordy

This file will add RAF C-17 AI aircraft to your FS2004 world. The flight plans are based on some
of the flights carried out by the real 99 Squadron. There are 3 flight plans. (I know there are
4 C-17's but I only made 3 flights so that if you are flying a C-17 yourself you won't see 5 on
the ground. A bit picky I know but done for realism.) It also includes a new AFCAD file which
willupdate the gates and Taxiways at Brize Norton, giving extra parking for the AI C-17's, and a
new .bgl file for the "Brize Norton 2004" Scenery package, which will remove the static C-17's so
you can use the AFCAD files.

Getting POSKY C-17 to work in Fs2004.
When using the C-17 model by POSKY you will need to say “no” when asked if you want to disable
unsupported functions (due to this being a FSDS1 model and not GMAX it is not totally supported
in FS2004) otherwise your model will not have undercarriage or engine fans and the control
surfaces will not function. If you have already used this aircraft and selected “yes” at this
option, you can undo it by opening the fs9.CFG file (usually located in your ‘Documents and
Settings’ folder. Do a search for fs9.CFG if you cant find it. I had trouble. P.S make sure you
open the CFG file itself and not the text document or shortcut you find.) and finding a line
called [FrameCallNoWarn]. Locate the line referring to the Boeing C-17 and delete it. Then save
the file. Once you do this the C-17 will work as beautifully as it did in FS2002.

##NOTE## Whilst testing this file I discovered that the POSKY C-17 model does not show up as an
AI aircraft in either "COCKPIT" or "VIRTUAL COCKPIT" view, but does however show up in "TOWER"
and "SPOT" views. This discovery nearly prompted me to scrap this project, but I decided to
release it anyway and let you make up your own minds as to whether you want to use it.

Installation.

Using the 2 files in TTOOLS folder, "flightplans.txt" "aircraft.txt" add the following lines.

------------
aircraft.txt

AC#190,540,"Boeing C-17 Paint3"

Ensure the AC# entry is a number not presently in use by another aircraft in your AI collection.
If it is change the number to the next in sequence, and ensure you change the number in the
flight plans below, otherwise the wrong aircraft will be displayed in FS. Also ensure that the
Aircraft title in speech marks relates to the aircraft you are using's '.cfg' file.

---------------
flightplans.txt

enter the following lines at the top of the flightplans list.

AC#190,RR6606,5%,WEEK,IFR,1/08:00:00,1/12:52:41,300,R,6606,ORMM,1/17:00:00,1/21:52:41,290,R,6607,EGVN,3/08:00:00,3/12:52:41,300,R,6606,ORMM,3/17:00:00,3/21:52:41,290,R,6607,EGVN,5/08:00:00,5/12:52:41,300,R,6606,ORMM,5/17:00:00,5/21:52:41,290,R,6607,EGVN

AFCAD File

Simply open AFCAD by Lee Swordy and import airport, select the AFCAD file AF2_EGVN.bgl from this add-on
and save. You will notice this AFCAD file has 3 more active bays on the C-17 pan 17,19 and 20.
Ensure that your C-17 model has the following lines at the bottom of each [flightsim.#] entry:

atc_parking_types=MIL_CARGO
atc_parking_codes=C-17

See the readme in Brize_AI for more in depth details of how to do this if required.

---------
.bgl file

#####First thing you may want to do is back up the original "Aircraft FS2004.bgl" file in Brize
Norton FS2004 folder, in case you decide to go back to the original scenery. Rename it
"original Aircraft.bgl" and put it in the "unused bgls" folder.

To Install the new one simply copy the file "Aircraft FS2004.bgl" in this zip, to the folder:

C:/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/Brize Norton FS2004/Scenery

and select "yes" to overwrite existing file.

This will remove the static C-17 models from the Brize Scenery, leaving the bays free to be used
by AI aircraft when using the AFCAD and TTOOLS files above.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have any problems with these files or need help with installation please do not hesitate
to contact me. I always like to hear people's opinions on my packages and suggestions for future
projects.

On the future projects front, keep your eyes peeled for my other new package "RAF Weight and
Balance Figures for FS2004" which is a collection of payloads for FS RAF aircraft.

And on the subject of the C-17. I urge everyone who reads this to keep on bugging all the big add-on companies, like JustFlight, DSB Design, ProjectOpensky, Captain Sim etc. about doing an updated GMAX C-17 for FS2004. One with a nice opening ramp and effects would be superb to see. I dont know about the rest of you but I would pay good money for one, especially if we could get one that looks as good as the forthcoming C-130 by Captain Sim and JustFlight.
